Rattling Sound of Silence - True Story The wheels of the stretcher rattled in the empty corridor of the casualty ward. In the middle of a dead silence, the screams of blood-filled eyes began to drown the hospital. It was not the first time that this hospital had heard the “bloody screams”; it was in fact habituated to the chilling screams. Barely an hour went by when the screaming souls did not shake up the living. Tonight, however, a new living soul was going to be agitated by them. Soon.I wandered aimlessly in search of an adventure in this tiny little barren hospital. “What would I ever find here?” My mind began to question my enthusiasm. After a little stroll outside the general ward, I was drawn by an unknown force towards the casualty area, it was hardly dissonant. I could hear the sound of my breath as I walked with my heart in my mouth and passed the patient lying there; without a sound. A closer look to the dead was in order, until I heard the rattling sound of the stretcher. I was intrigued by the sound of it and felt extremely happy to find an adventure calling out to me in the form of that sound. “Get out of the way!” Someone screamed to me, I hurried towards the corner of the ward. I wondered why this man was brought here, was he in a fight? Or an accident? I didnt manage to see him at all, just heard the dreadful screams he wailed in the middle of the night. I anxiously moved in closer to catch a glimpse of this wailing man; I walked over the trail of blood he spilled on his way to the ward. A young doctor, fresh out of medical school looked inexperienced. He monitored the man’s heart. The sound of that monitor now echoed across the room, his wails were silent. I could see him perspicaciously, his eyes were fixated on mine, I was barely aware of anything else then. The pace of his heart increased rapidly as the doctor tried to stop the extensive blood loss; his heart rate began to drop, slowly at first, rapidly as the seconds passed. Those seconds were like a lifetime, he hadnt left his gaze. Neither did I. In the spur of the moment, that man was gone. The man died, in front of my eyes, with his last image of departure - me, his last image from this earth which he would take with himself to his God’s abode was - mine. He lay there, the man I thought to be the adventure for tonight, motionless. The sound of wheels on the hard marble floor, the wails, and those blood-filled screams were gone. All that was left now was the rattling sound of silence in the room that drowned me into anguish. ALAS AH A man was dead..
