Re: Abandoned Railbed Right-of-Way If your property abuts this corridor within the Village of Buena Vista, we wish to inform you of the history and regulations governing it. The old abandoned railbed is 100 feet in width – 50 feet on either side of the developed walking path. It is owned by the Community Planning Branch of the Municipal Government and is controlled and regulated by the Village. Nothing is to be done on that property without approval from the Village. Over the years, some residents abutting the railbed have removed large trees, shrubs and brush, sometimes the width of their property, in order to provide a waterfront effect or to enhance the view from their property or for any other number of reasons. Landscaping and development along this corridor is to be controlled by the Municipality (Buena Vista) in order to maintain a visual sense of a natural area. Keeping the corridor in its natural state preserves privacy for those using it, and maintains a natural ecological zone Because of inquiries that have been made with respect to individual development along this trail, the Council felt it necessary to inform you of the regulations regarding this property.
