Re DOJ Protest November 08, 2013 Labor Union Center Kilusang Mayo Uno called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to junk and dismiss all trump-up charges against labor leaders, urban poor community leaders, and all rights activists. Alongside Urban poor community group Kalipunang Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) and Anakpawis Party-list, the group staged a protest in front of the Department of Justice in Ermita, Manila at around 10:00 in the morning. “Why are we being put in a situation of political persecution of this Aquino administration? Because of our active, militant, and progressive stance on the fight against all of the anti-people and anti-poor programs of this government like the PPP or the Public-Private Partnership, which has been the reason for the widespread and massive demolition on the urban poor communities not only here in Metro Manila, but also in the neighboring cities.,“ explained Roy Velez, Chairperson of KMU in the National Capital Region. The group also demanded the release of all Political Prisoners in the country, including KMU Leader Nante Gamara who was imprisoned on April 2012 for trumped up charges. Noticeable also during the protest, are individuals taking photos and videos in a rather suspicious manner of discreetly holding the camera, and aggressively taking a photo against member media.
