Re: Pulling Strings with a delicate touch Soweto Theatre alongside Basslady Productions bring to audiences a concert with a cause. 2014 has been a combustible year for South African music with Simphiwe Dana alongside Tumi and The Soil performing at the Africa Now! festival hosted at the Appollo in April. Bongani Madondo also launched his book ‘I’m Not Your Weekend Special: Portraits on the lifestyle and politics of Brenda Fassie’ at the University of Johannesburg in May further demonstartin South Africa’s global influence in the cultural arena . In the correlative spirit of maintaining South Africa’s acclaimed stature and influence, Soweto Theatre alongside Basslady Productions have programmed an all-star line-up for this December featuring some of the country’s most celebrated musicians ,most of whom are female. The Women in Music Project is a fundraising concert and proceedings will go towards the establishment of a music school. Spearheading the initiative is the renowned bassist Portia Sibiya, who has been pulling strings for the last eight years to bring to the audiences performances complete with exhiliration and wonder. About Portia Sibiya Sibiya has been playing bass since 2004 and has toured with the Basadi Womens Band internationally and she performed with the likes of Tshepo Tshola, Thandiswa Mazwai and Ray Phiri. She recently started her own band, called Colours of Africa, and also does corporate gigs. About Soweto Theatre Established on the 25th of May 2012, the theatre in line with its vision to offer a space that is courageous in selecting groundbreaking new work and mounts world-class productions, locally and globally welcomes such initiatives and is sincerely honoured and looking forward to more of such partnerships. The Women in Music Concert brings to Jabulani ,Soweto an appetising lineup namely: Thandiswa Mazwai, Vusi Nova, Ray Phiri, Busisiwe Mnguni, Simphiwe Dana, Zama Jobe, Nokwazi Dhlamini, Siphokazi Thembisile Ntaka, MXO, Suthukazi and Sibusiso Dludlu.
