Re: The new Ghostbusters. To the purists, its gonna be cack. The original film is older than me, and in that time, technology and tastes have changed. Do they do the kitsch ghosts of the original films, and have the new audience say, It was shit, the ghosts werent even scary? Do they run with the modern era ghost (creepy Japanese child) & have lovers of the original say, They tried too hard to make the ghosts scary and completely missed the point? Or, as I suspect they will, do they parody the latter? 2nd issue is the line-up. Once Bill Murray distanced himself from it, and Harold Ramis died, any hopes of a 3rd film were done for. Like it or not, doing a 3rd film without ALL of the original team was never an option. However, doing a new film with a new cast, and not blowing half the budget on getting the surviving 3 to at least pop up in the smallest of bit parts (Think Bill Murray closing the film with one line before the credits role...) would be sacrilegious. The best bet would be for Dan Ackroyd to reprise his role as Ray Stanz, having been begrudgingly dragged out of retirement to advise the girls. Hed say how they became a laughing stock, how health and safety took away their equipment, and how younger, cooler (T.A.P.S, Paranormal Investigators etc) came along and showed them up. He can explain (tongue in cheek) where the other members of the original group are; Egon is dead, Peter lost interest, and no-one has a clue what happened to Winston... Also, there WILL be a reference to the ghost of Harold Ramis somewhere... Finally, the proposed all female team. Hollywood has a certain set of rules it is required to stick to in these situations; > It will select at least one former SNL cast member. > It will need a funny fat girl for the Stanz role (Most likely: Melissa MaCarthy. Possibly: Rebel Wilson) > It will need an intelligent, awkward minority (most likely Asian) for the Spengeler/ Zedmore role (Most likely: Mindy Kaling. Possibly: Charlyne Yi) > It will need a sassy youngster for the Venkman role (Most likely: Aubrey Plaza. Possibly: Emma Stone or Chloe Grace Moretz) > It will need a slightly serious, yet still funny one (Most likely: Kristen Wiig. Possibly: Cameron Diaz) Will I watch it? Yes. Will I pay to watch it? Probably not. Will I like it? Much more than I like to imagine I would. The thoughts of Messrs McGiveron, Speshington and Donohoe would be greatly appreciated in this situation...
