Re assuring e-mail Dear Dillon, Thank you for contacting me about Obamacare. On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as “Obamacare”). As the law is implemented, we are seeing an increase in government regulations and taxes that place additional burdens on families and small businesses. We can all agree that rising health care costs need to be curbed, but I don’t believe that more government bureaucracy is the answer. A better approach would be to promote competition between insurance companies, enact medical malpractice reform, embrace preventive care, and expand the use of information technology. Health care should be accessible and affordable, but changes to the system should be done in a deliberate and reasonable way. The Supreme Court’s ruling on the law in June 2012 places the responsibility for repealing the law on the shoulders of Congress. I promised Nebraskans I would support the repeal of Obamacare. As such, I am proud to join 38 of my fellow senators in co-sponsoring a bill (S. 177) to fully repeal Obamacare. While passage by the Senate is unlikely during this Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues to promote the repeal of Obamacare, and I will support policies that reduce government involvement in the healthcare system. The Obama administration recently decided to postpone the law’s employer mandate – which requires business with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health insurance to those employees – to 2015 instead of 2014. This is just the latest evidence that the law will not work as advertised by the Obama administration. I do not think it should stop there; on July 10, I joined 45 of my Senate colleagues in a letter to President Obama urging him to delay permanently implementation of the disastrous law for all Americans. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me about this important issue. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know or visit my website at fischer.senate.gov. Sincerely, Deb Fischer
