Reaching out: please read below: many of you know my sis (Laura Parker Waits ) and her family live and mission in Puerto Lempira Honduras. This is there hospital! If you know anyone can help there is a container leaving in October. Please let me know! @reachouthonduras Here is a disturbing report on the government hospital in Puerto Lempira. It is the only hospital in that area. I asked Katrina if the hospital said they were closing. Yes at first they did, day before yesterday Dr. Marulanda came by the house to let us know that they could not continue to help people without basic materials. We had a meeting today with them, and the town to see what could be done. Out of 200 and something medicines that they need to run it, the govt only sent 37, and they sent way under the amount they need. That means right now they are out of 167 medicines in the pharmacy to treat the people. They do not have 10 c.c syringes which means they can not give I.V shots. They delivered a baby the other day using only one sterile gauze. They only use 2 small bags of laundry detergent, and a small bottle of diluted bleach to clean the whole hospital. They have no detergent or bleach to wash the sheets, and gowns. They also do not have the money they need to buy the diesel to run the small generator that runs the operating room, or the X-ray. They have been completely cut off from town lights as they owe $20,000. That is dollars. The conditions are the worst any body has ever seen them. Nobody had any solutions. I believe Emergency will stay open, and the outpatient clinic, but there is no medicine to give them so all the doctors can do is write a prescription, and hope the people can afford to buy the medicine. Anything you can send as far as supplies would be appreciated on this next container. It is a real mess. Otherwise all is good, at H.O.H. Donna is here, and she is doing really well.
