Read an interesting article on an op-ed piece in the national news this morning; all about libel and defamation about Obama. Of course this could apply to anyone I suppose. Does he have cause to sue for libel? First libel must be printed for the public to read, whether it be a newspaper article, magazine article, an acceptable social media news/Opinion page or it could even be flyers which are widely distributed.. It must be widely distributed to the public at large AND cause such severe damage to an individuals ability to earn a living and destroy their good name that they could not recover from such an attack. Personally in my opinion, he doesnt have a good name to destroy (he has accomplished this himself) And anyone who would employ such a person to perform anything more than emptying bedpans would be a dunce. Now, Defamation of character,...e on people, you (or at least most of you) are intelligent enough to know what this constitutes. Very similar to libel but is spoken words only (and much more difficult to prove) unless its on TV, rallies, enormous gatherings, etc. You get my point. It must also create the same damage as libel. There is one overwhelming factor which negates both these charges/ideas: Libel and defamation are not libel and defamation when they are true and can be proven to be true. Law lesson for the day is over, any questions?
