Reader feedback on mandatory PTO: I read the readers complaint and your advice in the November 16 Washington Post Magazine and would like to share the solution my former employer (I am retired)... used to deal with that issue. Employees were required to work on five of the federal holidays throughout the year and in return got the week between Christmas and New Years off, not having to expend any vacation time. Also considered but not implemented, was allowing 3 other holidays to be used as floating holidays, primarily intended to allow members of the various religions to have off days of significance to their individual religion. (Karla here: That makes entirely too much sense.)
