Reading and writing do much more than just give you new vocabulary - as important as that is. They also teach a languages structure. A native English speaker will say black bag, while the Thai language structure (using English words) would be bag colored black. Native speakers may not know their languages grammar, but will use the language correctly because they intuitively know its structure. Reading & writing - a little bit each day - get help you get to this intuitive state.
