Reading this brought Tears of Joy. I did not, nor did FB, announce my B-Day yesterday. So here you go. Every year my father would tell me the story of the day I was born. He wrote it all done for me, so I can have it forever. Awesome! The 4th of December 2014 Happy birthday, my boy. I recall I used to talk about the day you were born at your birthday dinner, but it’s been a while. So, Ill tell you about it now. A little background. At the time we had a ’72 Volkswagen buss. The engine pretty much fell apart at 55,000 miles. The dealer did a little work to fix it, but… Well your mother was driving home from BINGO one night and the bus stalled, unable to get started again, a few blocks from home. She ended up walking home, as there were no cell phones back then to call for help. Now you were not due for another week. All went to bed, including 2+ year old Amy, at the other end of the house. I woke up about 6:30 am because I heard a baby crying. I went to check on Amy, and she was sound asleep. I went back to bed, but your mother had woken up, and said, “you better not go back to sleep. I think I am in labor”. Since we had no working vehicle I called grandma and grandpa, and grandma drove over and took mother and me to the hospital, and then took Amy home with her. We got to the hospital just before 7 AM. Mother was taken upstairs to get dressed (or undressed) for labor, while I finished a bit of paperwork. I got to the labor room about 7:05, and a doctor was looked at mother’s “dilation” . The doctor said, “This woman is about to deliver” (I was thinking, no kidding…). They took her right to the delivery room, and it was all I could do to get dressed so I could be there too. Mother pushed once, and out you flew. I saw that you were a boy, and was thrilled. Then, when you started to cry I realized that your cry is what woke me up… I called both grandparents and reported the news. I could hear Grandma saying to Amy, “Oh happy day. Your brother has arrived!” Grandpa told you mother months before that if she had a boy he would buy her this really comfy chair. Grandma and Amy came and picked me up from the hospital, and we went right downtown and bought the chair. You and I were the first ones to share it. I held you in it while we watched “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”. Love you so, Dad With all My Heart, Thank You All for being part of my Life.
