Real Madrid should have given £86m to Liverpool, not Tottenham If Real Madrid were going to spend huge, it should have been on Liverpools Luis Suarez and not Tottenhams Gareth Bale. Forgive the pun, but the fact Real Madrid were lacking bite up front against Barcelona in El Clasico was plain to see. They even played new signing Gareth Balein the central strikers role, and the world record Welshman was ineffective. It makes you really wonder about the decision to spend a huge £86 million on signing Bale, only to play him out of position in a game at such a high level. Meanwhile on Merseyside, the irrepressible Luis Suarez scored a sensational hat-trick to down West Brom, making it six goals in four games upon his return from suspension. Liverpool had to fend off interest from Arsenal for his signature in the summer, while links to Real Madrid proved to be little more than just a rumour. Even just on this early form, it is hard to believe that Real Madrid made the best investment decision with their world record fee - it would have been better served spent on Luis Suarez instead. Manager Brendan Rodgers insisted throughout Arsenals pursuit, that only a fee in the same ballpark as the Bale discussions would make them even consider selling. Liverpool are currently reaping the rewards of Suarez staying. While Gareth Bale is struggling to adapt to life in Spain, there would likely be no such concern for native speaker Suarez. The Uruguayan showed throughout his ban, for his country that a lack of match action did not hamper his ability, a hint that he is not the type of player slowed by needing to get into a rich vein of form, or struggling for fitness - able to hit the ground running as he has on his Liverpool return. Suarez would likely have given Barcelonas defence a torrid time on Saturday night, and the thought of him playing alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria is a mouth-watering one. He has been linked with a future move to Madrid even since the transfer window closed, but the finances involved surely make the Spaniards unlikely to part with such huge money two years in succession. Real may have backed the wrong horse and missed the best chance they had to land Luis Suarez.
