Real quick update this week because time is getting away from all - TopicsExpress

Real quick update this week because time is getting away from all of is in the office here as we try to build momentum into the finals! One of the things we are doing is trying to do is sell out our annual Harley Raffle! Last year we sold 850 tickets and made 55k for the club and if you could find a spare $100 to support the club that would be a huge help. Plus, you give yourself to drive away on the hog or take the $25k cash which wouldn’t be too shabby! The colts were very good! I pulled on the lime green runners uniform and delivered the messages and they were able to survive that which is a good effort in itself. I hadn’t done that since the 2005 AFL Grand Final where it could be argued that my late message to Dean Cox to kick it quickly because there was no time left, ultimately cost the Coasters a flag as Leo Barry took that towering mark. Anyhow, that made me a little nervous regarding my detrimental influence, but we got through unscathed this time as the Colts had a dominant win. The 3 inside mids led the way and received great service from Justin Shand in the ruck. Alby Dean, Ethan MaGuire and Benny Whitsed each accumulated 30 possessions apiece and continually pushed the side forward. Down back Jack Watson was unbeatable and Chris Firns bounced back to some really strong form. Warrick Wilson also had a good day and his 20 disposals set up numerous scoring opportunities through his clever and concise ball use. Callan Cranenburgh continued his excellent year with 24 off a wing and his power running continues to be his great strength. Jesse Turner played a fantastic game and his honesty and team orientated movement to defend and cover for teammates was a highlight. One of the most pleasing aspects of the day was the form of a new young pup who came in for his first game. Jesse Glass McCasker came in as a key defender and showed poise and confidence in his first hitout. Great to see from a player who has an amazing athletic frame for the sport! One to look out for next year for sure. The win sends the colts to 16 and 2 A staggering effort given the quality of the competition ! Ill go to the league fixture because it was played before the reserves and we were happy with what panned out down in Bunbury. Our effort against West Perth was unacceptable after quarter time and I felt that we were getting a little comfortable with our approach and that can be a dangerous thing leading into finals. We made 4 changes to the lineup on top of missing Tallan And Tim to injury and suspension. The young lads that came into the lineup applied themselves extremely well and put the opposition under enormous pressure. Simmo came back after 2 weeks out and had immediate impact. 12 possessions and 5 marks in the first quarter showcased all of his courage and heart as he backed into packs and won the footy. Unfortunately, our skill level just didn’t match our intensity and after skipping away to an early 12pt lead we gave the footy back and paid the price. Even Sim was a little rusty after missing some footy and at quarter time we had controlled the game, but had handed them all 3 of their goals from turnovers under little or no pressure. At half time the same trend was continuing and whilst we trailed by 6pts, we had had easy opportunities to score and failed to capitalize. 8 minutes into the 3rd and we leveled up with the Royals but again we butchered the footy and handed momentum back to the opposition. There was a period in the back half of the quarter which actually looked like it broke our backs. Clean possession off half back or through the middle were wasted and a couple of quick goals made the task look very tough. They lifted their rating when they smelt blood and they eventually ran out 34 point winners. We never gave up and battled to the end but their seasoned quality was too much in the end. Simmo was awesome, as was Blighty in a different midfield role and Kirky Ugle and Bluey also had good days. Howy also had an intriguing battle with Josh Smith and that contest will hold him in good stead for high pressure situations to come! Well done to Tommy Smirk who had a great day on debut at half back. He’s done the hard yards this year and showed that he has a heap to offer our footy club in years to come. Our effort and application took a huge step forward and now we start again. 2 home and away games leading into the bye and then the Sharks in the first final. We have reset and will come out humming I’m sure this week against a Bulldogs team looking for redemption after 2 close losses. The main area we need to address now is ball use so look for that to ramp up over the coming month. The reserves had a crushing victory on Sunday afternoon, eventually running out winners 22.11 to 12.5. Cass came back after 12 weeks out and had 28 disposals and looked close to a recall and Rocket Rod Manton also played his first game of the year and had 18 class touches! Rudy kicked 3 and it should have been 8, and Ducky also bagged another 4 goals to go with 20 possessions in a very strong display. Brandon Jetta also showed that he is working into some fine form and is pressing for senior selection. We were looking for some senior boys to respond strongly and they did just that. Jukes kicked 3 goals and applied a heap of pressure and Bokey and Riggs ran with real power to amass 30 possessions each. Faulky went hell for leather for a quarter before receiving a head clash from Riggs which put him out of action but we were really happy with his approach for the first 30 minutes. So all in all a strong week for the club and an effort that sees us move forward strongly ! The colts will be at full strength this week as Jason Daniels and Dylan Nelson move back to the level in preparation for the finals against one of the main dangers in the Bulldogs. At senior level we look to bounce back against a side that has found its best form over the past month. We finally get back to Steel Blue after a lengthy absence so get yourself down to the footy to watch us take on Souths!
