Really didnt want to mention Ferguson but I cant escape it and Im - TopicsExpress

Really didnt want to mention Ferguson but I cant escape it and Im seeing a lot of ignorance that really deeply upsets me. Some things everyone should take into consideration: 1). It doesnt matter what picture of Mike Brown the media shows. It doesnt matter if on his personal time the boy smoked weed or otherwise engaged in criminal acts. It doesnt matter if he graduated high school. Unarmed people are not supposed to be gunned down by those who are meant to serve and protect us. Thats just not the way the country is designed to work, and police have a myriad of nonlethal weaponry at their disposal. 2). Rioting and looting is not. Helping. Anyone. Attacking your local businesses owned by citizens just like you who have nothing to do with the verdict or the murder hurts us all. Not to mention people like me look bad to ignorant people who think what they see on tv is the way all Black people are. I have enough ignorance to deal with already. Using Browns death to get yourself a new pair of Jordans is selfish, POINTLESS, and savage. Youre not doing anything to help and I question your motives. 3). This. Is what. They want. A race war. The media knows exactly what its doing by perpetuating certain events, depicting them in a certain way, and selectively releasing information. Anyone who believes Fox News is unbiased is being manipulated. Anyone who believes all cops or all White people are racist is buying into this, and frankly, if you believe anything about an entire group of people that is not a characteristic of that group of people BY DEFINITION without having met EVERY MEMBER of that group to observe that characteristic for themselves, is an idiot. Sweeping generalizations are the hallmark of ignorance and the fuel for racism. Wake up. Calm down. Police brutality is a problem. But Ive seen it happen to more than just Blacks. Im not sure if it happens more OFTEN to Blacks because I just dont have those statistics at my disposal. What I can tell you is that it is BROADCAST more often when it happens to Blacks, which FURTHER fuels tensions. If the media perpetuates the idea that Blacks are violent then police will continue to shoot unarmed Blacks on site because they are human and susceptible to manipulation. If the media perpetuates the idea that police dislike Black people, Black people will continue to lash out because they are human and susceptible to manipulation. The facts surrounding Mike Browns death are so muddled that I do not have an opinion on whether the cop had a right to fire, because I was not there. What I can say is this: if the only reason you are rioting is because you feel minorities are being treated unfairly in this country, where the hell have you been for the last 200 years?
