Really great Radiolab episode about our relationship with mosquitoes and malaria. “The malaria parasite has been responsible for half of all human deaths since the Stone Age” - Sonia Shah (Cant say how accurate this estimate is) The other most interesting thing, to me, was the idea of mosquitoes as environmental activists; having throughout human history protected certain parts of the world (like Alaska!) from human development by driving us away. All this makes me very excited to be collecting mosquito larvae for a BBC film crew next month!
