Reasons why folk stay with us – story 2! This week we were delighted to welcome Veronica Chambers and her husband, Richard, for four nights. Veronica’s father was Wilbert Vere Awdry OBE, better known as the Reverend W Awdry, author of Thomas the tank engine books! The father of three started writing his stories about talking steam engines in 1943 when his son was in bed with measles and the rest is fictional history! In 1952 The Rev Awdry volunteered as a guard on The Talyllyn railway and was involved with the railway just down the valley from us for the rest of his life. This week Veronica and Richard visited to help celebrate the museum gaining its eagerly awaited national accreditation. The couple also managed to fit in a train trip up Snowdon where they say the views were sensational and also enjoyed a ride on The Welsh Highland Railway.
