This is my official review of The Dell Venue 8 pro: (in depth) (if you want a shorter version just kind of scan through the bullets on the left). So I know you all are probly really tired of hearing about my tablet, and its probly getting to a point where you think Im just trying to boast now but hear me out when I say that Im just trying to keep everyone informed and hopefully this will be the last thing that I have to say but I just really want to get this out there especially before black friday. This is a great gift that you should look into. Ok its typical for most people to have a device for 30-60 days before they write a review about it but once again, i want this up before black friday because I think it would make a great gift (Ive had it since the fourth). Anyways, Im gonna start put with the bad news first because there really arent too many downsides to this device, at least not ones that are bad enough to be deal breakers. So here are some things that could be considered bad about the Dell Venue 8 pro: >speaker can become somewhat distorted when turned above 80% however; this could possibly be fixed with an audio driver software update in the near future, besides, you wont need above 80% because its so friggin loud. >bottom right corner heats up when 3d gaming and or charging, but never to a point where it cant be held. >no full usb or hdmi ports but the micro usb port can be converted. >32gb model doesnt leave a ton of space for user. Windows is pretty big, dont buy this unless you have a microSd card and/or constant wifi to save all your files and leave the disk for programs (i do this and i have plenty of room for apps still, no complaints here). >Cameras are for emergencies only, Dell saved some money and probly made the device cheaper by not going ham on the cameras, (1.2mp front, and 5mp back), it gets the job done but only when you absolutely need it. In reality, tablets shouldnt be used for taking pictures. Though in my experience, image stabilization, light exposure optimizaion, auto focus, and frame choice (where you can turn a dial after youve taken a picture and switch frame you actually want to save for the shot) all work together well to make that 5mp not seem so bad. >Windows key is on top right side. In my opinion, I really wouldnt care if the device didnt have a windows key at all. theres an on screen windows key in the charms menu thats with you no matter what, I use that so much more than I press the button. some people just cant live without a home button at the bottom center of their device. also, you can close the app to get the start screen, press the start button in the recent apps/multitasking bar, press the button on your desktop. Ill even go on to say that the awkwardly placed windows key makes the device more ergonomic and sleek. You can also press it easily by applying pressure to your left index finger while in lanscape two handed position. (which is kind of how windows was meant to be used) i mean, theres pretty much nothing that works well in portrait on windows except for reading and pinball. when have you ever seen a laptop screen or desktop monitor thats taller than it is wide? >only works with its own cord, whats the point of having a micro usb charger if it isnt universal? anyways if you try plugging in another cord, it will fit but it wont register. but this cord does work for other devices and you can swap adapters thankfully. >auto brightness sucks, this could be changed with a driver update but youre better off with easily accesing the brightness settings manually via the quick settings found in the charms menu wherever you are. And here are most of the good things: >FULL WINDOWS 8.1 PC, this is not an arm based tablet, this is a full fledged computer, this is not running Windows RT (where only metro smartphone like apps are available) which means this supports flash! flash games (online games), flash videos, flash based websites, just like your laptop or desktop. You can run legacy desktop applications like office, adobe cs, java, photoshop, etc. also there is a desktop app called bluestacks which allows you to run android apps on your pc which works fine on this. and last but not least PC Games!! hook up, a keyboard, an xbox controller, or what have you and game on. gta, halo, battlefield, league of legends, world of tanks, minecraft etc. Youd be surprised how much this thing can handle, look it up Dell Venue 8 pro gaming test. >Ships with Microsoft Office 2013 no extra charge, (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) >32gb or 64gb optional but for the price i recommend 32gb and save everything to external drive. >microSd slot >optional LTE 4g built-in internet on the go. >Loudest speaker you have ever heard IN YOUR LIFE. I love partying with this. When held in landscape, speaker isnt muffled by hand due to its location on the bottom right (which becomes top right when in lanscape) and your hand is generally on bottom left (bottom right in landscape) so the speaker is raised as to not be muffled. >it sports Intels revised Bay Trail Atom quad-core 1.8ghz per core processor. great on battery, powerful performamce, (like i said with gaming). one of the fastest devices ive ever used in my life. >18 hrs. of battery life!! (on avg.). More like 10hrs. of heavy use. (3d gaming, bluetooth, live streamimg, downloading, brightness up, skype etc.) and 25hrs. on light use (web browsimg, social networking, reading, typing, music, metro app use. etc.) >Full HD I.P.S. display, 1280 x 800 resolution (packed on to a small screen for high pixel density) *Colors are beautiful with I.P.S.* >active stylus support and optional active stylus, (a stylus that allows you to hover over and icon like a cursor does by just pointing it at the screen.) >nice grippy rubberized texture with ringed pattern on back. The best way I can describe it is like a record disk, it even makes the record scratch sound when you rub your nail tip against it. >only 8 fits into (some) guy pockets, cargo pockets, and jacket pockets. (surprisingly). >Solid build, it doesnt have a weak of cheap feeling to it. it feels durable and very premium. And the weight is well balanced and distributed. >you can connect it to an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, hardrive, etc. via a complex array of bluetooth/wifi/usb/miracast/and hdmi adapters. >dual-band wifi transceiver. >4gb ram >self-esteem, you know you are that boss who carries the 8 PC wherever you go. >$299.99!!! how is that good? try comparing it go the Apple Ipads, Microsoft Surfaces, Dell Venue 11 pro, pretty much any ultrabook or hybrid out there, etc. then well talk. All in all, I really dont think that there is a single person or type of person on the face of the earth who couldnt find a use for this especially due to the fact that windows 8.1 is so versatile. So if you have the money and you wanna get an impressive gift this year, I can garuntee you that the Venue 8 pro is the way to go. It will not disappoint anyone. This tablet litterally fits any lifestyle. Im not sure what kind of deals dell is having tommorrow but definitely check walmart (emphasis on the )
