Rebel govs are leaving certainty for uncertainty –PDP The Peoples Democratic Party has described the plan by seven aggrieved governors within its fold to join the All Progressives Congress as a fight against fate. The party said that the proposed defection indicated that nemesis was catching up with the governors. A member of the party’s Board of Trustees, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said President Goodluck Jonathan and the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led leadership of the party had done everything to ensure peace within the party. Investigation showed that the inauguration of the party’s national disciplinary committee, established to look into the crises besetting the party and recommend appropriate measures had been postponed from (today) Friday till Tuesday. A source within the PDP said that appropriate sanctions awaited the rebel governors, who had indicated their interest to join the opposition party. The PDP chieftain said, “What they are doing is unprecedented. But they will neither be here nor there at the end of the day. They won’t be welcomed there (in the APC). Competent people will take over their positions because there won’t be vacuums. “People who have not had opportunities will now come up (after their exit). They are leaving certainty for uncertainty. Except one of them, they all came through the backdoor. Some people suffered as a result of their (governors’) ambitions because they displaced some other people. “This is nemesis at work. They are fighting against fate and the wrath they have incurred upon themselves. There are various reconciliatory efforts and the President (Jonathan) and the party’s leadership are making efforts to ensure peace if they will give peace a chance.” The embattled former National Secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at a solidarity rally held in his Okuku hometown, Osun State, on September 8, 2013 said he was ready to join the APC if the PDP refused to accommodate him. Oyinlola, who addressed a mammoth crowd of supporters, said he was ready to leave the PDP for any party that will accommodate him with his supporters. Despite a warning by the leadership of the PDP in Osun that members should not attend the Oyinlola rally, hundreds of PDP supporters trooped to Okuku from various councils even as Oyinlola commended them for shunning the directive that they should not attend the rally. Accusing Tukur of ruling the party with impunity, Oyinlola said, “If there is anybody that has ruled with impunity and with total disregard to the dictates our (PDP) constitution, it is Bamanga Tukur. If anybody is thinking of sanctioning me, they will sanction Bamanga Tukur 10 times before me.” (Punch)
