Recap of games from May 5th – May 7th CCL wrap up: Six league victories with a strong finish, winning three games in as many nights, not enough. Eagles take the CCL with seven league wins. Cardinals finish second. May 7th, 2014 Bexley, OH Cardinals defeat Hawks 6-2 Charlie Kolp collected three hits as the Cardinals took home a 6-2 victory over Bishop Hartley in seven innings at St. Charles on Wednesday. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the first and sixth innings. Nick Pappa picked up his fourth win for the Carolians, behind his second complete game effort. Pappa allowed no earned runs, three hits and two walks while striking out two. Gilliland took the loss for Hartley. He allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked six and struck out one. The top of the first saw Hartley take an early 2-0 lead. A triple by Montgomery, plating Onega started the inning off. Bishop Hartley pushed more runs across when Montgomery scored on a wild pitch. The games last lead went to the Cardinals thanks to a second inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Kolp, a two-run single by Jacob Weikert, and an RBI triple by Matt Cooke. St. Charles piled on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A Jacob Moerhman sacrifice fly scored Kolp for the innings first run. That was followed up by Nick Pappas single, bringing home Jimmy Holtz. May 6th, 2014 Columbus, OH Weikert leads Cardinals over Stallions, 8-3 Jacob Weikert drove in three runs, helping the Cardinals to an 8-3 victory over the Stallions, on Tuesday at St. Francis DeSales. Weikert doubled in the second inning and singled in the first and third innings. Trey Willard got the win for the Cardinals. After a gritty performance, Willard improved his record to 6-2, among the Central District leaders, allowing three runs and seven hits over six innings, with four strikeouts and four walks. Bowden was the games losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked four and struck out two. The Cardinals took the lead in the first, thanks to an RBI single by Bailey. St Charles never relinquished the lead. The Cardinals got two-run rallies in the third and seventh innings. In the third, PREP scored on a two-run single by Jacob Weikert, plating Nick Pappa and Matt Martin. One DeSales run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the third, making the score 6-1. An RBI single by Lipak triggered DeSales comeback. Finally, Willard ended the inning, popping up Stopar for the final out. A one-run fourth inning helped bring DeSales within four. A bases loaded walk sparked the DeSales rally attempt. And Willard, once again, ends the rally, getting Lipak to fly out. DeSales scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to cut its deficit to three. An RBI single by Golden gave DeSales life. Finally, Willard got Bowden to ground out to end the threat. The Cardinals added two more runs in the top of the seventh. The inning got off to a hot start when Matt Martin doubled, bringing home Willard, followed by Matt Cookes single, plating Matt Martin. May 5th, 2014 Columbus, OH Cardinals top Silver Knights 4-3 After three lead changes in Mondays game at Bishop Ready, the St. Charles Cardinals finally pulled out a 4-3. PREP took the lead in the third inning and held on for the victory, after a two-run double by Trey Willard off Horn, scored Ryan Bailey and Andrew Fenlon. St. Charles would not relinquish the lead as Bishop Ready was unable to weather a two-run seventh inning deficit. Bishop Ready scored one run in the seventh on a groundout by Fieldcamp. Despite its efforts, Bishop Ready couldnt finish the comeback. Willard went 2-2 at the plate for the Cardinals. Jacob Myers got the win for the Cardinals. Improving his record to a Central District leading 6-0. Myers allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings, with four strikeouts and no walks. Horn couldnt get it done on the bump for Bishop Ready, taking the loss. He lasted six innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs. In the top of the first, St. Charles grabbed an early, 1-0. With great offensive execution, Jacob Weikert started the rally for the Cardinals with a single. Matt Cooke moved Weikert from first to second, and then Bailey singled, scoring Weikert. Bishop Ready quickly matched the Carolians strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the first. Bishop Ready scored on a two-run single by Grayson Budd. St Charles plays host to Bexley tonight at 7pm, for senior night, under the lights. JV plays at 4:15.
