Received some good questions and commentary yesterday concerning the image of Jesus and how that image has been used, My friends concern is a legitimate concern in that most religions, icons are used for every aspect of their worship. The Greek word for icon is Eikon and means image, thats for you computer worshipers out there, lol. The Bible is clear on this matter and God does not condone the use of graven images. Graven, deeply impressed, carved or sculptured a reference to man made images, statues and with modern technology printed images. This goes against the practices of many religions who use these things to the extreme, even declaring them holy. In every Catholic church and Catholic home around the world you will find a picture of Mary, of the Pope, of the various saints, and a crucifix. The Catholics have never allowed Jesus to come down off of the cross, what they must understand is that He has come down, He is now the resurrected Christ. Had Jesus not come down from the cross, had God resurrected His Son, had Jesus not ascended into Heaven to be with His Father, Gods plan of Salvation of redemption, would not have been complete. Satan tried his best to get Jesus to sin against God, he tempted Jesus 3 times in the wilderness, he tried to get Jesus to refuse to go to the cross and today satan will still suggest that Gods will was not done, not finished, by portraying Jesus still hanging on the cross. Exodus 20:4-6 KJB Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or likeness of any thing that is in Heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Amen. Another icon that is found everywhere is the likeness of angels, the cute little cherubs, they have pink cheeks, they are represented as fat little baby angels. Cherubs are very large, impressive waring angels, anything but cute cuddly baby angels, we cant even get that right. My friend is correct in his belief, the sad fact is that everything we do, everything we believe, such as our belief and practice that Sunday is the last day of the week and the sabbath day, is another belief started by the Catholic Church, and the list is endless. Oh, by the way, Saturday is the last day of the week, Sunday is the first day, :)The enemy continues to perpetrate his crimes against God using the church, using religion as his tool. Regarding the image of Jesus, the question exists, does anyone know what Jesus looks like? We must understand that Jesus walked the earth, that He was seen by thousands of people, many who lived with Him, ate with Him, slept in His presence. They saw His miracles, they listened to His words, they even witnessed his suffering and the shedding of His blood, so whos to say that any of the images that we have today arent a fair representation of our Lord, handed down by God that we might know the physical Jesus, just like his disciples. Jesus did not carry with Him a mystery of His appearance, He was flesh in the presence of the world, God is Spirit and even though The Bible tells us that He walked in the Garden with Adam, The Word is clear, no one can stand in His presence, no one knows the physical being of God. If there are fair representations of Jesus, would God declare them as idols or icons of idols? I understand the concern of some over the misuse of icons and the of images of people for worship and the greatest concern is the misuse which should be addressed by The Word of God in Exodus20:4 KJB. Have people seen Jesus, have they been in the presence of Jesus, this too is a tough call, too many people continue to declare that they have seen Mary, that they have seen this or seen that and yet there is no standing evidence except The Word of God. Have I seen Jesus, a physical Jesus, no, have I been in His presence, have I felt His peace and comfort, yes and all I will say is that it is an experience not found in this earthly existence, the presence of His love! One last thing, even the disciples and Mary Magdalene had their moments where they did not recognize Jesus, He was in their presence in spirit form and in His physical form. John 20:13-15 KJB And they (two angels) say unto her; woman why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I not know where they have laid Him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She supposing Him to be the gardener, saith unto Him, Sir, If thou hath borne Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away. Amen. Was Jesus in a physical form at that time, no, He said, John 20:17 KJB Touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my Father. Amen. Jesus could not ascend in His physical human form, He had to first ascend to God in spiritual form. 1st Corinthians 15:50 KJB Now this I say brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Amen. Whether you worship idols or icons, if you follow your religious practices and they contradict The Word of God is strictly up to you, I only ask, if it goes against The Word of God, then who is the author?
