Recent article by the Daily star reflects that Bangladesh is in turmoil due to the upcoming general election. At the current time EMC(Election Monitoring Committee) has been selected by the ruling party, the Awami League, from its government and members of Jatiya Party to oversee the election. However, its opposition, the BNP are saying that EMC is not neutral and neither impartial due to them being selected with the approval of the ruling government. Non of the the ruling or opposition party have faith in each other. The CTG( care taker government) in the recent years have been accused of taking an political role during the election process and the supreme court has abolished their return on the conviction that they are not democratically elected or have judiciary power to servev their purpose.As the bloodshed over the election process escalates, the international communities and the UN is urging that a neutral CTG should be selected to oversee the election and for fair democratic election to be implemented , both the opposition and the ruling party have to partcipate in the election process. The UN has also highlighted that the 152 prisoners convicted for alledged war crimes are being tortured and ill treated in appalling prison conditions and few have died in custody, and it urges that the Bangladesh government should take care of human rights issue in prisons and allow them to have fair trial and access to lawyers of their choice. It warns that failure to adhere to this, will see Bangladesh confronting with serious human right issue. Please read the article and dont be put off of it lengh.
