Recently, Greg Montfroy made mention of the fact that it is incumbent upon bands to not only play great music, but to entertain their audiences as well. Paul Kelly also, recently spoke of the ability of ground breaking band Yothu Yindi to deliver a philosophy AND a great show. It could be argued, that depending on your mood, it is preferable to watch a show of modest music delivered with passion and energy, than to be subjected to a virtuosic display performed with benign indifference. But then of course every now and then, you are privileged enough to to see and hear bands that combine sublime musicianship and a wonderful, entertaining stage presence. Such was the case for all of us who witnessed The Davidson Brothers at The Goldmines Hotel this afternoon. Simply brilliant.
