Recently I represented a couple of police officers from around the State on Divorce and Child Custody issues. I was to surprised to see two different Judges in two different courts make sure that they were not armed for hearings where we had settled the issue(s). The reason for this was because this was a personal matter for them so they were not given the authority to be armed. Makes sense right? I say not really. Either we trust the person or we dont. Just because it is his case, he is still a police officer. Police officers are required to be cops 24 hours a day, thus the reason that they are armed. If there is an issue in court or in the hallway, parking lot etc. then should the officer take the position, sorry I am here on personal business, cant stop that assault...call another cop! It just seems like we are finding reasons to not trust people and now it is extending to the people we trust to protect us.
