Recently, Legion Rovers were asked by the mum of a friend of our Sponsor, Barry Collins, if her 10 year old daughter Rebecca could come to one of our games and write a report on the match. Rebecca is a budding journalist and one heck of a nice girl to boot. She turned up on Sunday at Beveridge Park with her dad before most of our players arrived. That is how eager she was. After being handed a team sheet so she could keep track of who was who, Rebecca wrote the below report. I think that this is a cracking report and excellently done for one so young. Please read, enjoy, share and give positive feedback Legion Rovers Football Club Match Report Abbey FC v Legion Rovers FC 16/3/14 – Beveridge Park Kirkcaldy Rebecca Mann aged 10. Warm Up- Whole team passing the ball then running up and down the pitch. It was very windy but sunny and dry. The players then got into pairs then passed the ball. Ross Gardiner is the captain and the formation for the game is 4-5-1. Captain Ross is right back because Aitken is not available!!! Legion kick the game off and the ball goes past Legion’s goal in first minute. Early free kick to Legion but no goal. There then was a good run by Marc Gay which led to a throw in. Ross took the throw, which led to a corner. Following the corner Abbey broke away but a good save was made by Gavin Longworth. Later on, another free kick was awarded to Abbey but no goal was conceded. The game was going through a quiet spell until a long ball from Gavin Longworth led to a great finish from Stephen Wilkie. I was impressed with his goal. A minute later Abbey equalised which dampened the crowd’s enthusiasm. Following that good play by King Billy Dodds Fraser Park led to a free kick but no goal. Shortly after, Abbey had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside. Great play by Park led to a Gascoigne run, which resulted in no goal for Rovers. Wilkie then made a good move which resulted in a corner but no goal. Doddys then went down but referee so no foul and he still played on. Poor clearance by Gavin Longworth resulted in a chance for Abbey but it came to nothing. Minutes later, Rovers were on the attack down the left wing and great finish by Konnor Kwapisz saw the Rovers take the lead. What a strike it was. HALF TIME 2-1 Rovers. It was a quiet start to the second half and Rovers made an early substitution when Marc Young went off for Alan Black. Shortly afterwards, a penalty was awarded to Abbey which resulted in a goal and the score was 2-2. Abbey were looking a lot more threatening and corners and freekicks were getting more and more for Abbey. Shortly after Jack Thomson came on for Marc Gay and Abbey continued the attack but our keeper was in command. Soon after a great freekick resulted in a goal for Abbey and it was 2-3. Rovers then changed the formation to 4-3-3 in the attempt to get an equalizer. The referee angered the Rovers bench with a few poor decisions. Doddys was trying his heart out but on one occasion had one touch too many. Ross went upfront as the minutes ticked down but time ran out and Abbey won 3-2. I really enjoyed the game and you made me and dad feel welcome. We will be back. Rebecca.
