Recently, a video about a student scolding his teacher went viral. The student demanded the teacher to apologize for suddenly shouting his name loudly—and I believe most who have watched the video were surprised at the sudden screaming, too. And so, the debate started: Who was in the wrong? The teacher who shouted so loud suddenly or the student who was so rude to the teacher? Obviously, just by watching the video, most would side with the teacher. However, does it matter who was right or wrong? Why not use this video as a tribute to all teachers out there? Yeah, its not a typo. Tribute. When I was in secondary school, I remembered talking back to teacher many times. Once, when a teacher threw our books (she was in a VERY bad mood), I mimicked her by picking my book up and tossing it onto my table. She got so furious that…lets leave it at that ;P I also remember our class making a teacher cried, and she left the classroom in the middle of a lesson. To my best knowledge, a teacher living near my house remembers me, because I often see him in my estate. Other than him, I dont know whether any teacher still remembers me. Well, I dont even remember the name of the teacher who has cried. So, whats the point? In a video advertisement to recruit more teachers, we see the elegant Mrs Chong making a difference in a students life. Im sure some graduates who did not know what to work as decided to be the next Mrs Chong…only to realize that to be Mrs Chong, it takes more than just putting in more hours, working harder and having passion. Teachers are screamed at by both students and superiors. Why is this video a tribute? Much like what you see in war movies, whereby you only see soldiers having gunfights with their enemies, you were not aware that theyve spent days walking and aiming at nothing before having a target to shoot. The idea is the same—the teacher that youve going to face on Monday might appear to be a hero, knowing exactly what to teach every day, but what he or she really faces is beyond what you can imagine. Appreciate, because to be a Mrs Chong isnt just signing a contract and offering extra lessons. This video reminds us that being a teacher is not a bed of roses. What do you think?
