Recently in prayer, I began reminding God of all my imperfections. As soon as I began to list them, He spoke these words to me: “The Body of Christ isn’t called to be perfect; it’s called to be functioning.” I didn’t list another one. I began to look at my own body; it is full of flaws. There are scars, weird shapes and some things are bigger than they should be.. My hair does not stay in its place throughout the day, and I only have one dimple when I smile. Flawed.... How ridiculous would it be for me to cut off my left leg because it has a scar on it or shave my head because my hair frizzes in the rain? As bizarre as that sounds, how many times do we think that because we have an emotional flaw we are no longer fit for use. We toss ourselves aside when we notice a characteristic about ourselves that we aren’t too proud of. However, we never take the time to realize that although there are blemishes, we still function properly. Perfection is a target that we will never hit. The “perfect” person, well they simply do not exist. The beauty of the Body of Christ is that it is marked with scars, and it is those scars that prove He is alive... Instead of focusing on the imperfections of yourself, take time to realize your function....What is it that you are called to do? What is your function in the body? When you recognize your role, focus on that, push hard after God, and He will change things along the way if need be...
