Recently, one of our junior chapter members, Jacquelin Zimmerman, created a figure skating team on the College of Charleston’s campus! We spoke to Jacquelin about her experience and figured it would be great to share her story with all of ZTA! “For me, figure skating is not just a sport or a hobby, but it’s a lifestyle. I know it sounds pretty cliché, but it’s true. I’ve been skating competitively since I was 7-years old. Though it has been a huge commitment over the years, I would not change it for a thing. Unfortunately where I’m from, figure skating is not recognized as an official high school sport. Due to all of the hours I spent training outside of school, I didn’t have the time to be as involved as I would have liked to with other activities in high school. I made it my mission to change this in college by deciding to create the first ever College of Charleston Intercollegiate Figure Skating team. It is great to be surrounded by a group of people who share the same love and passion for figure skating as I do so far from home. The process of creating the team was not easy and took a lot of hard work! Despite what many might think, I still have a lot of work cut out for me. I’m determined to keep at it and to make this team the best it can be for future success and skaters who come to the College of Charleston! I could not imagine my life without the ice, and am so thankful for the support I’ve received from my family, friends, school, ZTA sisters, and the Charleston community!” We are so proud of all Jacquelins hard work and cant wait to see what her team accomplishes!
