Recently the Supreme Court struck down a law that limited the amount of money an individual can donate to a campaign. What does this mean to you and me? Well a lot of us don’t vote, a lot of us don’t donate to political candidates and most don’t pay attention to political news. But guess who does vote, does donate to political candidates and are shaping the political and economic landscape of this country? The same groups behind McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission and Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, organizations like Americans for Prosperity (Koch brothers). They argue corporations under the law are people (an actual living breathing person) they call it “free speech”. Still don’t feel any of this matters? Think about this, when a corporation kills someone because of faulty products (Toyota/GM) not one person goes to jail. Just a fine. Can any one person that you know of kill someone and not go to jail? But I thought corporations were people? You can’t make this sort of stuff up. It’s reads like a John Grisham novel. Yes Democracy is for Sale! Not sure Adam Smith would approve.
