Recordonline State Assembly passes resolution to honor life of Pete Seeger ALBANY — A resolution to celebrate the life of folk singer Pete Seeger was passed in the assembly Thursday by a strong majority voice vote. Seeger, of Beacon, died in January at age 94. The bill was put forward by Assemblymen Frank Skartados, D-Milton, and Kevin A. Cahill, D-Kingston. “Peter Seeger’s life would have been profoundly meaningful even if he had never picked up a banjo,” said Cahill. “He will be remembered as the man who bravely stood up for all Americans by asserting his First Amendment right in front of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, stating that no one should be forced to answer any questions regarding his philosophical, political and religious beliefs and associations” Pete Seeger reminds us of whats important Cahill also cited Seeger’s work to build the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and establish the sailboat as a rallying point to clean up the Hudson River and host environmental education programs for children. “I am proud to co-introduce a resolution that honors a great human who deserves to be remembered as so much more than a folk singer,” Cahill said. - Deborah Medenbach
