Red Flag Warning for most of Clark County, 9/11/14, 11 am to 9/12/14 to 6 pm AND Strong, early September east wind Thursday and Friday makes fire danger high. The National Weather Service (NWS) Portland has issued a Red Flag Warning for most of Clark County, Fire Weather Zone 604 from 11 am Thursday, September 11 to 6 pm Friday, September 12. (Not included is Zone 660, which is extreme South Washington Cascades.) Wind, plus a low relative humidity and critically dry fuels create dangerous conditions for fire possibilities. NE to east wind will develop tonight then strengthen Thursday. Thursday morning through Friday afternoon is the most critical time. An east wind is developing around midnight and then increasing 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph by dawn on Thursday. East wind 15-30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph can be expected in the east-wind favored areas of the north Oregon Cascades and at the west end of the Columbia River Gorge. Relative Humidity as low as 15% will be present Thursday afternoon. Humidity recovery as low as 20-25% Thursday night on slopes and ridges. This combination of wind and low humidity, warm temperatures and critically dry fuels may result in rapid fire spread should any starts occur.
