Red Theater Chicago (2013-2014 Season Auditions) Auditions: June 29th, 12:00pm-6:00p .. July 2nd 5:00pm-9:00p Auditions will be for two of Red Theater Chicago’s 2013-2014 season shows: Dylan by Sidney Michaels and Three Soldiers (for Sisters) by Aaron Sawyer. Dylan, the 1964 Broadway hit about the wild poet Dylan Thomas challenges audiences to “rage against the dying of the light” while exploring the effects of art, addiction, fame, and fortune. Conceptually, the play will be actor-focused, creating the play’s multiple locations and environments (17!) with actor bodies rather than literal scenic transitions. Ensemble roles are featured in the play’s strongest comedic and emotional moments, therefore singing and improvisation proficiencies are desirable. Category: Non-Equity Audition For Dylan written by Sidney Michaels, Red Theater is casting the ensemble and one lead role: 2 females, 5 males Lead Male: 20’s-40’s Supporting Male: 20’s-40’s Actors playing multiple roles: Three males 20’s-30’s One female 20’s One female 30’s-40’s Dylan will be the season opener, and the time commitment will be as follows: Rehearsals October 13 through November 17 on the following days: Sundays (time TBA) and Monday through Thursday 7:00pm-9:30pm Load-in, Tech and Dress rehearsals November 18-20 Previews: November 22-24 Performances: November 28 through December 22, Thursday-Saturday 7:30pm and Sunday 3:00pm Three Soldiers (for Sisters)is a modern story about love, war, and the pursuit of happiness told through three soldiers who fall in love with a modern version of Chekhov’s Three Sisters. While challenging the bourgeois assumptions about a classic work, this production mixes realism and expressionism with old men using robotic limbs, female soldiers, racial tensions, and a terrorist attack keeping the world exciting and new. Where Three Sisters is about the tragic fall of the upper class, Three Soldiers (for Sisters) is about the struggles of the modern warrior class- fighting to keep middle-wage lives despite great personal and ethical challenges. Three Soldiers (for Sisters) asks “How can we live the life we were promised?” For Three Soldiers (for Sisters) written by Aaron Sawyer (Red Hamlet), Red Theater is casting all roles (ensemble and leading): 5 females, 6 males Four females 20’s-30’s Three males 20’s-30’s African American male 20’s-30’s African American female 20’s-40’s Male 50’s-60’s Middle Eastern female 30’s-60’s Latino Male 20’s-30’s Three Sisters (for Soldiers) will be the second show of the season, and the time commitment will be as follows: Rehearsals January 12 through February 16 on the following days: Sundays (time TBA) and Monday through Thursday 7:00pm-9:30pm Load-in, Tech and Dress Rehearsals February 17-21 Previews: February 22-23, 27 Performances: February 28 through March 23, Thursday-Saturday evening performances and Sunday matinee performance Contact Information: Please contact [email protected] for more information and to schedule an audition time.
