Rediscovering myself After a couple of hectic years of work and meeting deadlines Trying to give my best to all the tasks, a profession assigns I am so grateful to have found some time to finally take a break To focus on all things I was longing to do and some things I wanted to make Like cooking delicacies for hubby to eat and to bake a cake or two Try out different cuisines in my kitchen and spend hours over a pot of stew Pick up a needle and some spools of thread and splash some color on cloth Make beautiful designs of birds and skies and flowers that attract a moth Then I discovered a gift, I never knew I had -- one day I just started writing It gave me joy to express my thoughts in rhyme; I found this so darned exciting Now that I’ve started I never wish to stop cause it gives me an inexplicable peace To pen down my thoughts about every little thing, I love giving my mind release I discover my views about topics in my head that I had never consciously approached When I’m writing they come out in a flow, I think they are happy to be broached I am so grateful I got some time off, so happy to have found this gift Although the compliments are flattering, that’s not all that gives me a lift For writing is not always for others, even though sharing one’s work is a vital part It is also about discovering and finding oneself, taking a peek in one’s own heart But that can also be said about cooking, sewing or painting pictures on a blank sheet I think the secret lies in taking time out for oneself and letting other things take a backseat So I know someday I have to be back at work and I will miss all this time I got free But what I will miss the most and treasure for life is this chance to rediscover me © Gargi Sarkhel Bagchi
