Reflecting on International Womens Day: I believe this is the first time Ive ever consciously done anything for #IWD. I guess I went ALL IN. :) This year I actually had 4 events in a row - WordSpell with Bänoo Zan and Britta Badour; FAC Opening Gallery with Andrea Thompson, Ify Chiwetelu, Nicole Brewer and Mahlikah Aweri; Ryersons 4th Annual Celebrating Womens Voices with Warsan Shire and Sonia Sanchez AND the Feminist Art Conference (#FAC2014) at OCAD. Today I was able to experience, participate and engage with a wonderful community of women. Our keynote speaker Dbi.young Anitafrika helped me ground myself in the moment, allowed a group of people to quickly develop into community, brought me to tears and laughter and still left me feeling full in my mind and heart. Later two more WordSpell Presents events for FAC2014 took place. I hosted a performance and Q&A session with Kanwal Rahim and Andrea Thompson with a full room. Shout outs to Lana for jumping up with her remarkable poem at the end of it. Next I had the pleasure of moderating a panel entitled Not a Dirty Word - Feminism in Spoken Word with Lishai Peel, Mahlikah Aweri (Happy born day!), Barbara Erochina and Vanessa McGowan. It was so wonderful to have this opportunity to be amongst such brave artists. Thank you Tanya Neumeyer for video recording our panel. Thank you Afra Karen and Melanie Karas for being so awesome in general :) I am so full from spending the day with so many wonderful women and feminists of all genders. Big thanks to Ilene Sova and the FAC team for organizing such a wonderful event!!! The WordSpell team is so stoked for future partnerships. My sisters: Andrea, Vanessa and Barbara, I love you all and am so grateful for you in my life. To all of the other women in my life, there are so many of you who I respect and admire (my sisters in flesh: Sami and Hilary), I LOVE YOU!
