Reflecting on the fact that Ill be leaving prison work at the end - TopicsExpress

Reflecting on the fact that Ill be leaving prison work at the end of April after 3 years of employment in a prison environment. Im not leaving because I dont absolutely love my work. Its actually a very sad thought to me. My counseling skills have deepened as a result of working in prison. As a counselor, you deal with everything. And I mean everything in a prison setting. I have been privileged to observe the transformation of many a person. Forgiveness on a level I will never have to dig for in this lifetime. The resiliency of the human spirit. Regret on a level I have never experienced and hope to never experience. Never underestimate the power of a 2 week stay in solitary confinement. Even there I see God at work. Especially there I see God at work. I love that Texas prisons offer treatment. Sharing with offenders the tools that can guide them to re-enter their lives and families successfully has been a privilege. One I took seriously. I love being part of the solution. My Warden asked me what my plan was for my career once I completed my Graduate Program as he knows I absolutely love Therapeutic Community. My response you never know. I may come back as Program Director. He always replies absolutely Ms. Comeaux. I love my Warden. With that being said, Im moving to a job that has elements that I love. Working with youth in a counseling environment and meeting community leaders to educate them about our services. 30 minutes from home.
