Reflecting on the tour of Europe I have just come back from.For the 28 days from the 19th of August to the 15th of September I was part of a group of people who set out from London,covering 8700kms through France,Spain,Italy,Monaco.Austria,Liechtenstein,Switzerland,Germany,The Netherlands and Belgium.In that time we saw all the Cultural Icons, great buildings and scenic beauty of the the cities towns and country side of each of those countries we past through.Ate the food ,drank the Wine and Beer of each country talked to the locals mostly in English but sometimes used their own language as we got used to the different words.Getting up early to beat the crowds to visit the sights on any particular day but not always.Either walking with a local guide, using cable cars ,open taxi ,gondolas, water taxi high speed ferry, cog wheel train or alpine gondolas to get to and from the attractions.Instead of watching on TV or seeing them in Films or reading about them in books we got to see things up close and personal joining the thousands of other people from all over the world doing the same thing,looking at the sights of each country.We went from sea level to 1800 metres visiting Hitlers "Eagles Nest" in Bavaria Germany and 2000 metres to the visitor complex at the top of Mount Pilatus in Switzerland.The weather was fine and hot (30c+) most of the time but in the alpine areas it was cloudy and raining at times even snowing on Mount Pilatus,getting cloudy and showery as we went west into Germany and the Netherlands(Holland)at the end of the tour.Getting about in the Coach we drove on any thing from two lane to 6 or 8 lane motorways through lots of toll stations ,hundreds of tunnels including one ,the Arleburg tunnel in Switzerland of 15kms in length to get to each different place we went to.My Camera Button finger is "worn out" from all the pictures that I took and my eye balls were on storks when I got back to Hokitika after an epic 26 hr flight back from London with very little sleep,but saying all that I had a bloody great trip and are looking forward to doing it all again some were else in 2015. 2
