Refletions on Robin Williams death. I couldnt comment on this yesterday because it was too upsetting and also too soon after losing Phillip Seymour Hoffman - another brilliant performer. Addiction and Depression are serious things. They are made more serious because people with these issues are generally shunned by society as losers and not afforded help to deal with the problem. People with fewer resources than the famous die every day because they cannot afford help or are too embarrased to admit they have a problem. What are we doing about it? Robin Williams was very open about his problem and had the resources to secure the best affordable care....and yet, still....he carried a burden so heavy that even the obvious love of his family was unable to pull him from the dark. Its so tragic. Everytime this happens I keep hoping we will wake up as a society to cast the stigma aside and create a dialogue that will result in less headlines like the one we read yesterday.
