Refreshing Sardaunas Aware bill. Aware is a Hausa word for division (secession), the bill was presented to the then parliament, in a protest against disrespect and personal assault on the members of parliament from the Northern region in Lagos. It all started when Antony Enahoro from south raised a motion for attainment of #Nigerias political independence with as soon as possible (1957) clause, the then Northern leadership reasoned that their manpower is not yet ready for independence, so they amended the bill with as soon as practicable clause, the action of the Northern representatives infuriated the southern counterpart, and a mob action was carried out against some of the Northern MPs, that very single action of mob assault on the Northern MPs galvanised the Northern leadership under the Northern Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, to sponsor the Aware Bill (secession Bill), that is the North is no longer interested in the amalgamated existence with other regions in an entity called Nigeria. The appearance of Aware Bill in the parliament jolted the southern politicians which make them helter skelter to make the North to withdraw the bill, after consultations, and politickings, the independence was shift to as soon as practicable (1960), and the bill was suspended, the recent secession inclination by Lamido of Adamawa is a reminder to the suspended bill, it is time the present Northern leadership revisited the bill and present it at National Assembly for speedy Aware of Arewa in a country where the lives and properties of #Arewa is under serious attack. Can the present Northern leaders present the Aware Bill ?
