Regarding the Affordable Care Act. If you are wealthy, it is not - TopicsExpress

Regarding the Affordable Care Act. If you are wealthy, it is not such a good thing (because of the slight increase in taxes you will pay to help others less fortunate). But, if you are NOT rich, it is a wonderful thing. If a family of four makes less than $40,000, they will be fully subsidized the full amount if they don’t have insurance through their employer. If you have no income you are fully subsidized up front. Subsidy is based on income and you can get help in some form up to a salary of $96,000. You will receive a rebate on your taxes if you were not subsidized up front. We will go on line to the “Exchange” and chose a plan. There are four plans: Bronze - 60/40 Silver - 70/30 Gold - 80/20 Platinum - 90/10 The subsidies are based on the Silver Plan but you can go up or down and the price will adjust. The Insurance Companies must cover the following services with no cap and they cannot exclude pre-existing: ER Services Hospitalization Lab Services Maternity Mental Health/Substance Abuse Out Patient Care Pediatric Care Preventative Care Rehabilitation Services Vision and Dental Care for Children Contrary to uninformed belief, Congress is NOT backing out of the program because they think it is bad. Politicians are not eligible because: a) they make too much money; and b) they already get insurance through the government. The Affordable Care Act is for the Average Joe. If you are rich and making a lot of money, you should pay a little more and help those who are less fortunate. No one wakes up in the morning and says, “I hope I grow up and have seven kids and have to live in a one room apartment and can’t afford to eat.” “I hope I can’t afford a home and have to go on welfare.” “I hope when I grow up, I don’t have a good job and make very little money.” “I hope that I am unlucky in life and have to suffer” NO ONE WAKES UP AND SAYS THAT, no one. Sure, there are some that take advantage of the situation, but should we punish everyone for the few that are dishonest. It is not a perfect plan, but steps are being done to fix the flaws. People will still lie as to how many children they have, etc. The IRS is cracking down on earned credit and will ask for school records to prove amount of children, etc. If they are caught lying, their wages will be garnished. Again, it is not perfect, but it is a start!
