Regarding the upcoming AEUNT elections, I am running for the position of Womens Officer. I would greatly appreciate it if you would recommend me to your colleagues (or the teachers at your childs school... or teacher friends...) if you think that I would be suitable for this role. My blurb: Firstly you may know me as Grace Hooper. I have taught in the Northern Territory since 2006, at Borroloola, Milingimbi, Ludmilla and Shepherdson College. At various points in time I have been a sub-branch president, sub-branch representative, Vice-President of the Arnhem Regional Council of the AEUNT, on the Executive of the AEUNT as a representative of the Darwin regional and then the Arnhem Region. I have also been active in attending meetings of Unions NT. I am currently a member of the executive of Unions NT. As Womens Officer I want to provide information to the women of our union regarding gender specific issues (such as maternity leave entitlements and return to work provisions) and how to access a range of assistance that is available outside of the union to women in the Northern Territory. As a member of the executive of the AEUNT I want to develop a range of resources to empower fellow members to run effective sub-branches. From how to take minutes to what does a sub-branch representative do during a meeting with a colleague and a principal. I believe that a womens officers role is vital in this day and age as we still do not have gender balance in leadership roles in the workplace, nor indeed in our union! Yet the role of a womens officer ought not be confined to providing assistance to women who are members of our union, but to all women through providing assistance to men who are seeking to establish a balance between work and their family commitments. In unity, Grace Tongatua.
