Regardless of this ultimately being a commercial, It seems to shed justice on the silly phenomenon of over-apologizing for simple activities/existing. A more neutral substitute for sorry, i have found more effective are: pardon, & come again?. And with people who you are closer to, you may choose to use apologies or even oopsies! (the latter is a bit silly/whimsical, but hey, i assume you have powers of being endearing on-call!) In any case, in a more ideal society, apologetic gestures would be seen as acts of etiquette and politeness. But more often than not, it is seen as a subtle opportunity to self-acclaim the dominant position of a mental status-game. On another side of the culture spectrum, Chinese language has imbedded these gestures into daily language, so that the assumption is courtesy. Now, instead of getting into deeper questions of agendas & intentions, it is interesting to note that regardless of whether someone did something wrong, a phrase that is often generously stated is: mei shi 没事 literally means to have nothing to do , or mei you wen ti没有问题 means No problem. out of problem. I guess, it can be translated as what us Californians love to say: It is ALLL good!!. And this might just be a band-aid phrase that i will say to another person (usually female) who apologizes for squeezing by me to move forward to wherever she may be going. https://youtube/watch?v=rzL-vdQ3ObA
