Regardless of what started this current war in Israel, it had to be done. Instead of criticizing the IDF for their current ground assault in Gaza lets think about what would have happened if they had not gone in: The discovery of a highly sophisticated network of tunnels leading into Israel (we always knew there were tunnels but we didnt know they were as extensive as we have discovered or that the constructing/expansion of them had drastically increased in recent months) is reason enough to justify Israels actions. Had Israel not gone in it is now clear that Hamas was planning a large scale assault on Israel through the use of these tunnels. Many sources believe it would have been carried out on Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, and a very significant Jewish holiday. This is a time in Israel when families have huge gatherings at homes, parks... and places of worship are packed. If Hamas carried out their tunnel assault during a time like this it would have been a devastating blow to Israel. It would not have been just a ground attack that Israel responded with. It would have been a hail storm of missiles and bombs of the magnitude the Palestinians have yet to see. An attack of this severity would also have very likely caused the U.S. military to get involved and who knows what type of chain reaction this would have set off... However, this current ground assault nipped it in the bud. Yes there have been casualties on both sides, but nowhere close to the amount there would have been had these tunnels not been discovered and Hamass plan for using them foiled.
