Regardless of your opinion of US foreign policy in Africa, this map is deceptive. By coloring it all in dark blue, it is designed to appear that the US is occupying a vast swath of territory. 80% of those troops are in Djibouti, so 4,000 troops in little little Djibouti. The other countries, 300 are after Konny, another 200 Niger and another 500 spread out in 10 other countries. Thats not a major military presence. The French have more than 10,000 troops in Africa, in 4 major bases (also in Lemmonier) and have led 50 military interventions in Africa since 1960. Franceafrique is not a shadow war, thats neo-imperialism.
