Regardless of your political affiliation and religious sect or denomination, you and every person on Earth should take 20 minutes to watch this video. Forget your presuppositions and supposed solutions and remind yourself what exactly life and this planet is. Seeing the planet in the vastness of space introduces a rare contextual checkpoint into our lives. One speaker suggested that Earth is an oasis of life in the vast desert of the observable universe - and I think this is a good way to think about it. It is so near, so familiar; yet so precious and unique. I believe every major religion demands that its followers be good stewards of the planet. I would think this should be an area of universal agreement. Therefore, regardless of your definition the problems and your vision of the solutions, why not do what you can to make things right? Even if its as simple as taking care of your possession to extend their useful life, not buying products with unnecessary processing, recycling, or picking up trash on a walk, why not exert the extra effort to take care of the most precious thing we know to exist. I think Gandhi said it best: be the change you want to see in the world.
