Reggae Legend, Ken Boothe Added to Annual Music Conference Aimed at Strengthening Jamaica’s Independent Music Professionals KINGSTON, JAMAICA, October 27, 2014 – For the third consecutive year, Kingston will provide the beautiful backdrop for the 2014 Jamaica Music Conference (JMC), the premier platform for Jamaican independent music professionals, will be held November 21 – November 23, 2014, at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. The JMC is held annually in November, and is attended by recording artists, songwriters, publishers, entertainment executives and special guests from around the world. This year’s conference will include a welcome reception at Ashanti Oasis Restaurant featuring the Pembroke Hall High School Band, the winner of the 2014 Jamaica’s Best School Band competition. The JMC will also feature two days of panel discussions featuring Reggae legend Ken Boothe, veteran artist Nadine Sutherland, veteran manager Robert Livingston and internationally acclaimed producer Mikey Bennett, among others. One of the highlights of the 2014 JMC will be a panel examining the global phenomenon known as the, Reggae Revival. The term’s creator, author Dutty Bookman, will join other panelists to explore how to create a sustainable movement and lessons to be learned from Reggae’s history. This year the JMC welcomes prominent civil rights attorney Jasmine Rand, Esq. (best known for her representation of the family of Trayvon Martin) speaking on the power of music in social movements; and Michael Skolnik, Political Advisor to Russell Simmons and President of Global Grind Hip-Pop culture website. Global Grind is acknowledged as one of the number one Hip Hop sites on the web and enjoys millions of unique viewers every month. A unique aspect of the JMC is that each year it convenes a Community Service Day, in which conference participants are invited to participate. Past service projects have included the creation of a garden project in conjunction with the Haile Selassie High School in Kingston, Jamaica. Past JMC participants include popular Reggae legend Bob Andy, Reggae Revival Artist Protoje, Sound System selector, Rory “Stone Love”, JaRIA board chair, Michael Ibo Cooper, attorney Kwasi Bonsu, and Reggae Film Festival founder Barbara Blake Hannah.
