Registration is still open for October Old-Time Week, which will be held from October 26th through November 2nd. The week includes the Fiddlers Reunion. We have been getting lots of calls from prospective students who want to know if a particular class level is right for them. An explanation of class levels can be found at https://augustaheritagecenter.org/levels/ Heres a summary: Novice or ‘from Scratch’ – Student has never tried the instrument, craft, or type of dance. Beginner – Student has a basic knowledge of where the notes are, how to tune, but still needs considerable guidance in how to play. Advancing Beginner – Student knows some of the basics but is not yet comfortable playing at the intermediate level. Intermediate – Student has a moderate repertoire of tunes and plays with ease at normal speed. In couples dancing, student knows how to lead and follow. In crafts, student has mastered the basics. Advanced – Student has extensive experience and is able to concentrate solely on the subtleties of style and increase their repertoire. Several of our October Old-Time Week classes are combined levels, such as beginning/intermediate and intermediate/advanced. Students considering those classes should decide whether theyre closer to the beginning or advanced end of the spectrum. As long as there is space available, its easy to transfer to a different level if you find yourself in a class thats too basic or too advanced for you. Just come to the Augusta Office and well make the change.
