Be Joyful- 16 (7.6.14): (A New Series of Meditations from Philippians) Joy in Christs Humility (2:5-11) *************************************** Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5 (KJV) Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. (NLT) After exhorting the believers to be humble and maintain the unity among themselves, Paul gives the prime example of humility from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the most beautiful description of Humility in all the Scriptures. There is nobody else who humbled Himself so much from such a high position and again exalted to such a high position in heaven. When the Lord came down, leaving aside the privileges of His Godhead in heaven, He clothed Himself with the attitude of a Servant, though He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. His humility is seen in His constant surrender to the Fathers Will in His prayers and ministry. Though He had all the authority and glory in heaven and on earth, yet He choose willingly to surrender all this to the Father. Humility was a key element in Jesuslife as He accomplished Gods will for fallen humanity. If we are to surrender to God and His Will for us, we need to be humble as well. He humbly prayed for HIs Fathers Will to be done. We, too, ought to pray, Father, I want Your Will, not mine. This is the mark of true humility and the beginning of spiritual maturity. Sadly, many Christians and leaders have false ego and spiritual pride. Some are boastful of their qualifications and titles and demand honor and service from others. Hardly we can find an example of humility from modern preachers/pastors. Then how do the common believers learn about humility? Humility was demonstrated by the Lord Jesus in serving His disciples with love and compassion. True humility encompasses these virtues too. May we learn to live humbly as we follow the Lord Jesus example. Amen. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Proverbs 15:33.
