Religion is flexible like a PC operating system. Ive seen some intelligent, good hearted people use its tools and files and Ive seen some negative or dimwitted people use them. In comparison, the end spiritual results for both religious types will be drastically different even as they both consume the very same texts. I might be concerned about some risks associated with religious education, but I still think it serves an important role in developing an area of our humanity that science wont touch. Religion, however flawed, gives us a linguistic toolkit to communicate human spirituality. While atheists will sit and wait for the evidence, those who believe in a greater system are either doing it out of fear and compulsion -- out maybe out of a child like wonder or because they have a large than average pituitary gland. It really depends on the person.
