Religious fundamentalists are utilising the Zionist atrocities in Gaza to spread anti-semitism. They misinterpret the Quran to justify their bigotry. It is important to clarify these misconceptions in order to win the struggle for the liberation of Palestine from Zionism. First consider verse 6:85 where the Prophets of Judaism are praised by name [6:85] We gave him Isaac and Jacob: all (three) guided: and before him, We guided Noah, and among his progeny, David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron: thus do We reward those who do good: And Zakariya and John, and Jesus and Elias: all in the ranks of the righteous: And Ismail and Elisha, and Jonas, and Lot: and to all We gave favour above the nations. Clearly there is no enmity in Islam to Christianity or Judaism as religions. Then why does the Quran state [5:52] O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. And whoso among you takes them for friends is indeed one of them. Verily, Allah guides not the unjust people. The answer is that this verse does not refer to Christians and Jews of all times. The verse refers to the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad when certain tribes of Jews and Christians were at war with Muslims within the state of Medina. These tribes were the Banu Nadir, the Banu Qurayza, and the Banu Qaynuqa. Finally, consider verse 60:8 that says God may bring about love between the Muslims and their enemies. It may be that Allah will bring about love between you and those of them with whom you are now at enmity; and Allah is All-Powerful; and Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful. In other words, no enmity is for all time. If they accept the path of justice, even the worst enemy can become a friend. To win any war or any struggle, our thinking must be absolutely clear. Zionism is the enemy. Jews as a people or Judaism as a faith are not enemies. By obscuring the real enemy, religious fundamentalists are actually weakening the world-wide resistance to Zionism.
