Remains of Jewish Sobibor Victims Receiving Proper Burial After 70 Years The remains of Jewish victims of Sobibor are finally going to receive a proper burial, some 70 years later. Chief rabbis from Israel and members of the Knesset are set to travel to a ceremonial burial in October, to see the proper burying of bones uncovered at the notorious Nazi camp located in Poland. Some 250,000 Jewish prisoners were killed at Sobibor. Visitors to the camp have noticed in the past small objects on the ground that resemble rocks–these are, in fact, human remains. “According to Jewish tradition, a person’s soul cannot rest if his or her bones are not buried,” Jonny Daniels, a political consultant and founder and executive director of From The Depths, an organization working to preserve Jewish sites in Poland, told the Jerusalem Post. “The bones have been sitting there for seven decades. We owe it to those who were lost to properly memorialize them and take care of this.” Holocaust survivors, Israeli ministers and European lawmakers will also be invited to the event. Daniels said European leaders in particular were being invited to help raise awareness for the consequences of extremism. “They need to understand that the incidents happening now can lead to this,” he stated, referring to the Holocaust. “That’s a strong statement, but I believe it. Europe is a scary place for Jews today.” The post Remains of Jewish Sobibor Victims Receiving Proper Burial After 70 Years appeared first on Jspace News. ift.tt/1ppRqtk
