Remember the fires on the Cuyahoga River feeding into Lake Erie in the 1960s? If you dont, thank the Clean Water Act and the EPA. Now that our nation has made a concerted effort to reduce industrial and municipal point source pollution, it is time drop kick the lying cheating polluters who are loading down our lakes and rivers with nitrates and phosphorous. Im looking at you Farm Bureau types, Rick Perry and Joni Ernst. We need to end algae bloom and reduce the Dead Zone. Its not going to happen if we pretend that voluntary nutrient reduction strategies are going to get the job done. I support the new EPA rules on waters of the U.S. and if it takes amending the Clean Water Act to get the attention (jail time & fines) of the bad apples among Iowas 90,000 farmers, sign me up. 3,000,000 people in Iowa deserve clean water!
